Golden Knights Converting Carter Hart PTO to Multi-Year Deal

The Golden Knights sign Carter Hart to a two-year contract after his successful tryout. Find out more about the deal.

The Vegas Golden Knights are signing Carter Hart to an official NHL contract. Just a couple of weeks after signing the goaltender to a PTO (professional tryout), the Golden Knights are expected to convert that tryout into a two-year contract.

TSN’s Darren Dreger reports, “As we reported on October 16, expect the VGK to convert Carter Hart’s PTO to a standard player contract, believed to be 2 years with a cap hit of $2M.”

As would be expected, any time news of Hart’s deal with the Golden Knights comes up, there is a flood of comments and reactions about the hockey club’s willingness to sign a player who was involved in a hockey scandal, but ultimately acquitted of sexual abuse allegations.

The Golden Knights made headlines, and fans threatened to walk away from the team after signing Hart, while others applauded the team for doing whatever it takes to win. Some see this as a PR misstep, but Vegas might be one of the few teams that can get away with making a move like this and fans ultimately letting it go.

Hart is eligible to play as early as Dec. 1 and could earn a multi-year deal, even after this reported two-year contract is signed. He told the media, “I’m looking forward to moving ahead here, getting back to playing the game of hockey that I love and showing the community here what I’m about and my true character and who I am.”
