Friedman’s Teams to Watch: Rangers, Sabres, and Red Wings

Elliotte Friedman says three teams to watch are the New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres, and Detroit Red Wings.

Tonight on the Hockey Night in Canada’s second intermission, Elliotte Friedman had his weekly Saturday Headlines, where he talked about news and notes from around the NHL.

This edition was the first since the Christmas break, and there was much to unpack. He mentioned a few things to keep an eye on. The three teams he listed were, unsurprisingly, the New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres, and Detroit Red Wings.

Friedman’s Thoughts

The first team that he talked about was the Rangers. He said: “Rangers, that’s a team everyone is watching.”

The Rangers have been struggling badly over the last month. Because of that, they have already made two trades to shake up their roster, the first one was Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, followed by Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken.

If Friedman is alluding to anything, it’s that the Rangers are still working the phones to try and get their team back on track. They’re far too good of a team to miss the playoffs; however, they don’t have much time to turn things around. Keep an eye on the Rangers—a move could come at any time.

Next, Friedman mentioned the Red Wings and Sabres, who have been performing worse than expected.

“Red Wings and Sabres, continue to scout each other. I do believe those two teams looked at something there before the break. We’ll see if that continues”

Could The Rangers and Sabres Trade With Each Other?

Could the answer to their problems be a trade with one another? It looks like both GMs think so. They’ve been scouting each other to see which players might fit on their rosters. It’s been said that a roster-shaking trade can send a message to an organization. It will be interesting to see if a deal between these two teams could change their fortunes.
