Flyers Suspend Broadcaster After Inappropriate Comments Go Out Live
The Philadelphia Flyers suspended a broadcaster after inappropriate comments were made while their radio broadcast was live on the air.
The Philadelphia Flyers have released a statement regarding the inappropriate comments that were made while their radio broadcast was live on the air, and their play-by-play announcer didn’t realize it.
Tim Saunders is the man in hot water after being caught on a hot mic. Saunders: “Now they’re going to take the TV timeout. We’ll take it as well, seven (minutes) gone in the third, it’s 3-2 Buffalo on the Philadelphia Flyers broadcast network.”
(pause)
Saunders: “While you’re down there, would you mind blowing me?”
The response not long after was, “I think we’re still on the air Tim.”
Saunders, who awkwardly chuckled, said, “No we’re not, are we?” He then paused and added, “Are we?”… “Do you have us? Talk to me.”
The Flyers Have Released A Statement
They write, “We are aware of the inappropriate comment made during last night’s radio broadcast in the TV timeout of the Flyers-Sabres game. These remarks do not reflect the standards of conduct or values we expect from anyone associated with our organization.”
Saudners has been suspended for two games, effective immediately. Both 97.5 The Fanatic and the Flyers organization took quick action. They noted, “We take this matter very seriously, and sincerely apologize to our listeners, fans, and all those affected by these comments.”
This was not the finest moment for the organization or the broadcaster. While there was no foul language, this the kind of comment that could take on a life of its own and it appears everyone wanted to get out ahead of it.
