Flyers May Be Nearing a Decision on Egor Zamula

The Philadelphia Flyers may be nearing a decision on Egor Zamula as he looks at a possible termination following his hiring of a new agent.

The Philadelphia Flyers may be approaching a quiet but notable roster shakeup on the blue line, with Egor Zamula’s future in the organization increasingly uncertain. According to Elliotte Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada and the latest edition of 32 Thoughts, Zamula is open to terminating his contract to pursue a fresh opportunity elsewhere — ideally one that offers a more straightforward path to NHL ice time.

Zamula recently cleared waivers and with Rasmus Ristolainen back in the lineup, Emil Andrae establishing himself as a regular, and Noah Juulsen sliding into the seventh defenseman role, Zamula has effectively been pushed out of the Flyers’ defensive rotation. Simply put, there isn’t a clear spot for him anymore.

Friedman also noted that Zamula hired a new agent, Dan Milstein. Milstein has a history of working with players to get out of their deals, as he did with Alexandre Texier, whose contract was mutually terminated by Columbus earlier this season. Texier resurfaced with Montreal. While the Flyers would prefer to trade Zamula — ideally recouping a future asset or depth forward — a contract termination is very much on the table if no deal materializes.

According to PuckPedia, going with Dan Milstein of Gold Star Hockey suggests that the move could signal preparation for a mutual contract termination and a subsequent signing elsewhere at a lower cap hit.

Zamula, 24, is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound defenseman with 41 points in 168 NHL games. He’s recorded just one point in 13 games this season and has spent much of the year as a healthy scratch. Rather than settling into a prolonged AHL role, Zamula appears ready to roll the dice on a new NHL opportunity.

This is one situation worth monitoring closely as the Flyers weigh their next move.
