Flames Livid, Senators Lean on Ullmark’s Hot Streak for OT Win
Linus Ullmark was stellar again, and the Ottawa Senators beat a very unhappy Flames team, in part because of the officiating.
Linus Ullmark continued his dominant stretch in net for the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night, backstopping his Sens to a thrilling overtime win over the Calgary Flames. Ullmark made 29 saves and even contributed an assist on the game-winning goal, extending his personal winning streak to seven games.
Since December 5, Ullmark has been nearly unbeatable, posting a perfect 7-0-0 record with a stellar .967 save percentage, a 0.99 goals-against average, and two shutouts.
The Senators are Red Hot Right Now
The Senators’ victory marked their fifth consecutive win, putting them right back in the mix in the Eastern Conference Wild Card race. They now hold the second wild card spot with 36 points, largely thanks to this streak. Ullmark’s recent performances have been a critical factor in the team’s success, with his exceptional play in the net providing stability and confidence for a roster that has responded.

On social media, some fans are pointing out that Ullmark has been exceptional since the moment he shared that his child expressed how happy he was about living in Canada, calling it the perfect place for snow. Since then, Ullmark has gone undefeated.
Whatever the reason for the run, the Senators love his play and are glad they signed him after making a trade with the Boston Bruins to acquire him this past offseason. He will be Ottawa’s long-term solution in goal when they start contending, which could be now if they can maintain what they’re doing.
Nick Cousins, Ridly Greig, and Brady Tkachuk scored the goals for the Senators in the win.
Flames Frustrated by Officiating Loss to Senators
The Flames left the ice frustrated after the loss. They were quick to call out the officiating decisions in their postgame media scrums.
Jonathan Huberdeau was upset over a crucial non-call during overtime when it appeared Brady Tkachuk’s stick hit him in the face. He was taken out of the play and Tkachuk came down to the other end and scored the goal. Huberdeau said the officials don’t say anything other than to tell him to go to the bench. He said it was understandable that refs make mistakes, but not when it impacts the outcome of the game.
Adding to the frustration, Blake Coleman revealed that officials admitted missing a punch on Martin Pospisil at the end of the second period.
