Flames Grind Out Gritty Win in Seattle with Resilient Effort

After a tough loss against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night, the Calgary Flames had an impressive bounce-back game in Seattle. Dan Vladar got the start in the net, trying to improve upon his recent poor performances where he lost six straight. The Flames offense gave him some much-needed support early on, helping them get the win in the end. New additions Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee had solid games, giving their new team a boost.

Offense Clicks Early

The Flames dominated the first period. A smart coaches challenge from Ryan Huska overturned a Seattle Kraken power play goal. From there, the Flames poured on the offense.

Morgan Frost opened the scoring with a beautiful first goal in a Calgary Flames uniform, marking a significant moment for a player who has been a much-needed addition to the lineup. He has seamlessly fit into the Flames’ middle-six forward group, providing an offensive spark.

Yegor Sharangovich extended the lead with a fortunate goal off a partial breakaway. Seattle head coach Dan Bylsma challenged the play for goalie interference, but the call on the ice stood, resulting in a crucial 5-on-3 power play for Calgary.

Jonathan Huberdeau capitalized on the opportunity, netting his 20th goal of the season—the fastest he has reached this milestone in his career. It was a dominant statement period for the Flames as they continue their push for a playoff spot.

Flames Keep Things Rolling

The second period saw a momentum shift as the Seattle Kraken began to settle into their game after a rough start. Kaapo Kakko got them on the board with a sharp shot off a 2-on-1 rush, cutting into Calgary’s lead. However, any further momentum was halted by Flames netminder Dan Vladar, who stood tall by stopping 11 of 12 shots to keep the game at 3-1.

Heading into the third, Calgary aimed to lock things down defensively. A controversial icing call against the Flames led to a fortunate goal for Brandon Tanev, pulling the Kraken within one. Seattle kept up the pressure, relentlessly testing Vladar. The push only stopped when Shane Wright took a high-sticking penalty in the final 20 seconds. Even then, Vladar had to make a massive last-second save on Jared McCann to secure the victory.

An intense battle in Seattle ended with a nail-biting finish, as the Flames held on for a well-earned win.

The Calgary Flames are back in action Tuesday against Toronto.
