Flames Expected to Receive “Can’t-Miss” Trade Offer for Coleman

The Calgary Flames don’t want to move Blake Coleman, but they might receive a trade offer they can’t say not to.

The Calgary Flames would prefer to keep Blake Coleman on their roster, but TSN’s Pierre LeBrun notes they can’t commit 100 percent to keeping the veteran forward. Noting that Calgary GM Craig Conroy “might just get an offer he can’t say no to, ” no door is being closed.

LeBrun added, if there is a deal that puts it over the top, and given the interest that there is in Coleman, a trade isn’t just possible, it might be probable.

The Flames are looking to get younger and transition their roster. Coleman — the same can be said for Nazem Kadri — becomes an interesting piece that teams will ask about ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. “This one might go right to the limit,” says LeBrun.

Coleman has 10 teams he can go to, and it’s unclear how flexible he will be with his list. Montreal has been rumored to be interested, but Elliotte Friedman reports he’s not convinced that’s going to happen. Darren Dreger adds, “If there’s interest from Montreal or any other team, you’re paying a premium, you’re overpaying to move that player out of Calgary, because that’s how respected he is by the Flames.

LeBrun noted of the Flames and how they are approaching a possible Coleman trade: “They are quite ready to keep Blake Coleman, he’s an important leader in that dressing room, but they can’t say that 100%…”

Friedman suggested that Tampa Bay makes a lot of sense, assuming they feel they can get into the playoffs and push.

As for how Coleman feels regarding a trade, Friedman added, “I think he’s pretty happy to stay, to be honest. I don’t think he would be upset at all if he stayed in Calgary.”
