Devils Get Brutal Injury Update on Jack Hughes After Fluke Accident

Jack Hughes of the Devils is out for approximately 8 weeks following successful surgery for a hand injury from a fluke accident.

The New Jersey Devils got brutal news on Saturday as Jack Hughes will be out approximately 8 weeks. They noted in a statement Saturday morning, “New Jersey Devils C Jack Hughes underwent successful surgery on his finger. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.”

They added that the expected return to play timeline is eight weeks and he will be re-evaluated at the six-week mark.

Reports were that he leaned on a glass that shattered, forcing a nasty cut that required surgery. It wasn’t known at the time if it was short or long term, but this is definitely not ideal news.

He’s likely headed to LTIR, giving the Devils $3.82 million in cap relief. Hughes was off to another stellar start before the freak injury. Continuing a pattern of missed games, his absence may push New Jersey to seek further help. Nico Hischier is expected to anchor the top line in the meantime.
