Connor Bedard Caught in Cringe-Worthy Autograph Moment

Connor Bedard’s awkward autograph moment has gone viral. Find out how it unfolded and what fans are saying about it.

Connor Bedard is off to a monster start this season, sitting fourth in NHL scoring with 13 goals and 31 points in 22 games. But heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Colorado Avalanche, the Chicago Blackhawks star found himself trending for something completely unrelated to hockey — an awkward autograph encounter that blew up online.

A now-viral video shows Bedard walking outside Ball Arena in Denver with teammates when a group of adult autograph seekers approaches him, holding 2023 issues of The Hockey News’ Draft Preview. One man repeatedly asks Bedard to sign his magazine, insisting he can “personalize it” and claiming he’s “never gotten your autograph before.” Bedard tries to move along, saying, “I’ve got to go,” before eventually scribbling all over the two covers.

The person, who most believe is an autograph reseller, filmed the clip and posted it on social media. As expected, the video got picked up and went viral when an account claimed that Bedard showed “zero humanity to this guy in what would have taken 2 seconds to be a decent person”.

Needless to say, most of the internet… did not agree.

Dozens of fans quickly pushed back, calling out the autograph seekers — many of whom are known for flipping signed items on eBay or Facebook Marketplace. “Not a fan or a kid, an adult looking for something to sell,” one user wrote. Others noted how common it is for NHL players to be hounded by the same resellers day after day.

Bedard was with his friends, just trying to enjoy some private time. The autograph seeker became annoying rather quickly, putting the Blackhawks’ superstar in an awkward position.

Bedard Signed It, But Should He Have?

Bedard ultimately signed it, but fans got a kick out of how he basically just sketched something that would look nothing like his actual autograph. While many supported Bedard, others roasted him, even though he eventually gave in to get the guy to go away.

It’s an impossible position: say no, and you’re rude. Say yes, and you’re enabling someone who likely has the wrong intentions.
