Bruins Hit With Major Blow as Charlie McAvoy Undergoes Surgery

Charlie McAvoy underwent facial surgery after being hit by a puck, and the Bruins have no timeline for his return.

The Boston Bruins will be without their top defenseman for the foreseeable future, as Charlie McAvoy has undergone facial surgery following a puck to the face last Saturday. According to Fluto Shinzawa, the injury required surgical intervention, and the team confirmed the procedure was successful.

Head coach Marco Sturm updated reporters on Wednesday, noting that McAvoy is recovering at home but remains without a timetable for return. “Charlie had a facial surgery. Successfully,” Sturm said. “He’s doing good. He’s recovering right now at home, and we still don’t know how long he’s gonna be out for.”

The loss is a significant blow to the Bruins, who lean heavily on McAvoy in all situations — even-strength, power play, and penalty kill. With no clear timeline and the team offering no hints on severity, Boston will now have to navigate an uncertain stretch without their top defenseman.
