Canucks Pushing to Move Red-Hot UFA Before the Market Turns

Kiefer Sherwood trade rumors heat up as Vancouver looks to move the talented winger. Discover what could happen next.

Kiefer Sherwood is the name everyone is talking about right now. He’s on the trade block in Vancouver, where the Canucks have made it known they are open to trading veterans and pending UFAs, of which Sherwood will be the most coveted. And while the team isn’t about to tell the world they’re eager to get a Sherwood deal done, they are.

The Canucks are reportedly seeking either young players or at least a 2nd round pick in return for the rugged winger with 12 goals. He brings energy and flexibility to a lineup, and it’s clear that when he gets hot, he can score in bunches. However, that latter part of his resume is what teams should be concerned about.

Sherwood has 12 goals this season, with nine coming in his first 12 games. He’s managed only three since. Now 24 games into the Canucks’ 2025–26 campaign, it’s clear his production has tailed off — and if it keeps sliding, so will the return Vancouver can expect in any trade.

At the risk of being dramatic, this is a trade the Canucks need to make. They need to make it now.

Expect a Sherwood Trade Soon

Teams are interested in Sherwood, and insiders believe this deal could happen imminently. If it doesn’t, that’s problematic for the Canucks. Sherwood’s value will never be higher than it is right now. It was likely higher two weeks ago than it is today. In two more weeks, should his goal scoring continue to plummet, he’ll be little more than a low-maintenance, playoff-style player who would fit into any room. That still has value, but not the same value as that same player with the plus side that he’s going to score 20 goals in his sleep.

Elliotte Friedman noted, “I think there’s a lot of teams are looking at him right now.” This suggests the Canucks will grab the best offer they can, as quickly as they can, before teams start to bow out of the race.

Should Sherwood get back on a scoring kick — he has no goals in his last four games — that could really spark offers from teams who see him as a good fit. The Canucks are looking to strike it rich while the offers are solid. That means a trade could be coming within the week.

That also means this could wind up being an overpay by a team that gets overly aggressive.
