Canucks: 3 Potential Trade Destinations for Jake DeBrusk
Jake DeBrusk has been creating chatter in the rumor mill as a trade candidate. Which teams could make sense as landing spots for him?
The Vancouver Canucks are one of the top sellers to watch as we continue to get closer to the 2026 NHL trade deadline. They already traded away former captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, and several of their players are creating chatter as potential trade candidates.
Jake DeBrusk is one specific Canucks trade candidate to keep an eye on this deadline season. TSN’s Chris Johnston recently named DeBrusk as one of the players the Canucks are listening to offers for as they continue to struggle.
Yet, it’s also important to note that DeBrusk has a full no-movement clause. As a result, he would need to give the green light for any potential trade.
If DeBrusk is open to a change of scenery, these three teams could be good landing spots for the 2015 first-round pick.
Detroit Red Wings
It would be understandable if the Red Wings made a big push for DeBrusk. When looking at their roster, it is fair to argue that they could use another skilled winger in their top six, and acquiring DeBrusk would give them just that.
The Red Wings also have a lot of cap space to work with, so they could afford DeBrusk’s $5.5 million cap hit with ease.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers were often viewed as a possible landing spot for DeBrusk in the past. Now that the Edmonton native is back in the rumor mill, could the Oilers consider making a push for him? It is fair to wonder whether they would consider it, as he would give their offense a nice boost.
The Oilers would need to get creative to make a DeBrusk trade work financially, but he could be a good fit in their top nine and on their power play if acquired. The hometown kid who plays in Edmonton has worked before. It should be noted, however, that this is not always the case with great success.
Winnipeg Jets
It has been a brutal season for the Jets so far, but they should not be ready to throw in the towel yet. After losing Nikolaj Ehlers to the Carolina Hurricanes in free agency this past summer, it’s clear that the Jets need another top-six winger. As a result of this, it would make sense if they tried to land DeBrusk.
If the Jets acquired DeBrusk, he could replace Alex Iafallo on Winnipeg’s first line with Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor.
