Canadiens Center Situation Worsens Following Dach Injury Update

Kirby Dach iCanadnjury updates: Montreal Canadiens face challenges with Dach out for 4 to 6 weeks due to a fractured foot.

The Montreal Canadiens were looking for a second-line center already. But, following news that forward Kirby Dach (fractured foot) will be out for 4 to 6 weeks, acquiring another pivot just became priority number one.

The news couldn’t come at a worse time. Dach has quietly been one of Montreal’s most noticeable players of late. The team may still be trying to rediscover its game, but Dach looked like a player who was settling in and gaining confidence. Many had hoped he’d finally put an injury-riddled few years behind him. Such is not the case.

There were questions about relying on Dach’s health going into the season. He’s missed so many games that the Canadiens — who want to push for a playoff spot and be a contender this season — realized they likely needed to upgrade and add another piece.

Zack Bolduc will take the second-line center spot, with Jake Evans playing in a third-line role.

Injuries have become a concern in Montreal. Kaiden Guhle is out another 8-10 weeks after undergoing surgery. Alex Newhook’s surgery to repair a fractured ankle will take four months to recover from.

The Canadiens were rumored to be in the mix on David Kampf before he signed with the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Who else they might have their eyes on is unclear at this point.
