Canadiens Avoid Worst-Case Scenario with Jake Evans Injury

The Montreal Canadiens got an injury update on Jake Evans and the team avoided a worst-case scenario situation.

The Montreal Canadiens will be without forward Jake Evans for the foreseeable future after the team announced he is expected to miss four to six weeks with a lower-body injury.

Evans suffered the injury on Dec. 21 against the Pittsburgh Penguins after taking a knee-on-knee hit and did not return to the game. While early concern surrounded the severity of the injury, a recent report indicated the worst-case scenario had been avoided. That now appears to be confirmed, as no surgery will be required.

Sportsnet’s Eric Engels clarified that the recovery timeline dates back to the time of the injury, meaning Evans has already served roughly one week of the four-to-six-week window. Fortunately, the team remains in a playoff position, despite the number of man-games missed to injury. The Canadiens have solid depth, and avoiding a long-term injury with Evans is good news.

The Canadiens Miss Evans Will.. Thank Goodness For Danault

The 29-year-old has appeared in 34 games this season, recording five goals and five assists while averaging over 15 minutes of ice time per night. While his offensive production has dipped, Evans has been leaned on heavily in a defensive, checking role following the offseason departure of Christian Dvorak.

The silver lining here is that Montreal added Phillip Danault last week to help stabilize the middle of the lineup. He will be relied upon to help fill the hole left by Evans’ injury delay.

In a separate roster move, the Canadiens also confirmed the recall of goaltender Sam Montembeault.
