Two New Teams Emerge in the Kiefer Sherwood Trade Watch

The Canucks have alerted teams they’re open to moving veterans, and interest is heating up. Who is checking in on Kiefer Sherwood?

The Vancouver Canucks have not-so quietly let the rest of the league know they’re open for business. The organization wants to get younger, and several veteran players are now available. This has sparked trade discussions on several players and Kiefer Sherwood has become one of the hottest names.

Rick Dhaliwal was the insider who reported this latest update, while also noting the Canucks aren’t asking for an outrageous return. While some might see a first-round pick as an aggressive ask, at least one team said the price isn’t unreasonable — especially with several franchises owning multiple first-rounders. Whether a late first-rounder is truly available remains to be seen, but Vancouver is listening.

Bruins and Wild Among Teams Showing Early Interest

The Boston Bruins and Minnesota Wild are among the clubs that have checked in on Sherwood, but they’re far from the only ones. His $1.5 million cap hit is drawing praise from multiple front offices, with one executive calling it one of the league’s best-value deals. For a physical, high-motor winger who can play anywhere in the bottom six, the appeal is obvious.

Conor Garland has also drawn inquiries, though his recent injury and hefty long-term contract make him a tougher piece to move. Teams are watching, but it’ll take a much stronger offer to pull him out of Vancouver.

The Canucks aren’t just fielding calls on rentals. Multiple veterans are generating interest, and with Philadelphia searching the market, likely for help on defense. A previous report pondered if the Flyers were looking at a center, but Dhaliwal says that’s not the case. In fact, he suggested if the Flyers wanted to look for a center, they should look anywhere but Vancouver, whose center depth is among the worst in the NHL.
