Blues Forward Could Benefit from Fresh Start Amid Stronger Play

The NHL trade deadline is approaching. Discover what it could mean for Jordan Kyrou and the St. Louis Blues this season.

The St. Louis Blues, like every other NHL franchise, is using the Olympic break to assess its roster. As sellers, and with the unofficial deadline having passed as the official 2026 NHL trade deadline approaches, speculation is swirling around several players, including forward Jordan Kyrou.

Veteran analyst Jeff Marek suggested on The Sheet podcast on February 6 that the 27-year-old winger might benefit from a fresh start. “Probably could use a change of environment, and I’m pretty sure St. Louis would only be too happy to afford that to him,” Marek said, hinting at growing interest in a potential trade.

Despite the rumors, Kyrou has been a standout for the Blues heading into the break. He’s got eight points in his last four games, upping his season total to 32 points in 47 games. A stretch of his last seven games included four multi-point games, with two impressive three-point outings, and he finished at +2.

Marek suggested Kyrou “was very good during a time when it was hard to be good.” With so much chatter surrounding the Blues and several distractions based on what St. Louis might do amidst a lackluster and uneven season, it’s easy to fall into a slump. And, inconsistency is something Kyrou has struggled with in the past.

A former first-round pick (35th overall in 2016), Kyrou is the kind of winger a contender might look at to boost their scoring. However, he’s locked into a contract until the end of the 2029-30 season. A non-contender looking for a top-six offensive weapon might see him as a fit, too. As the salary cap continues to rise, his $8.125 million cap hit might not be a steal, but it’s potentially good value.

Only once has he been a point-per-game player in the NHL. Still, he’s regularly produced more than 70 points in a season. The Blues are looking to shed cap space, and while they won’t give Kyrou away, St. Louis is reportedly open to significant roster adjustments.

Whether he stays in St. Louis or lands elsewhere, his performance over the past weeks has makes it clear: Kyrou is the kind of player who could offer a big reward for a team willing to take a risk.
