Blackhawks Get Good and Bad News on Bedard Injury Front

Connor Bedard has been placed on injured reserve. Not an LTIR situation, the good news is that he could be back as early as Saturday.

According to the Chicago Blackhawks, superstar forward Connor Bedard has been placed on injured reserve. Not an LTIR situation, the good news is that he could be back as early as Saturday. The bad news is that this isn’t just a one or two-day thing.

While the Blackhawks wait for Bedard to return, they have recalled Ethan Del Mastro and Laurent Brossoit from the AHL Rockford Ice Hogs.

Bedard was hurt at the end of a game versus the St. Louis Blues, when on a faceoff play, Bradyen Schenn pushed hard against Bedard, who hurt his shoulder as he fell backward. Many fans were upset, arguing that Schenn cross-checked Bedard on the faceoff instead of playing the puck for no reason. He later made a statement saying he was not intending to hurt anyone.

Even the Blackhawks coach Jeff Blashill said it’s not on Schenn and it was a good play. Bedard’s injury happened before the contact. The slow-motion video seems to show that to be the case. Up until the injury, the 20-year-old Bedard had played in every game this year for the Blackhawks and was top 5 in the NHL in points. He had scored 19 goals and 44 points in 31 games, averaging 21:03 of ice time per game.

It is expected that Blashill will offer a bit more information on Bedard’s situation after the team’s practice on Monday.

The bad news is that he was injured and will miss some time. The good news is that, for now, it doesn’t sound like anything so serious it will ruin his season.
