Adam Henrique Shocked By Being a First-Ever For the Oilers

The Oilers will honor veteran forward Adam Henrique with a silver stick ceremony, marking a milestone no Oiler has ever reached before.

The Edmonton Oilers will celebrate a remarkable milestone on Thursday night when veteran forward Adam Henrique is honored for playing in his 1,000th NHL game — becoming the first player in franchise history to reach the mark.

Henrique will be recognized with a silver stick ceremony ahead of the Oilers’ matchup against the New York Rangers at Rogers Place. It’s a milestone that comes as a shock to many, not because Henrique hasn’t earned it, but because he’s the first Oiler to hit the mark. He addressed that fact today ahead of the Oilers’ optional skate.

“Yeah, you keep saying that — it doesn’t seem real,” Henrique said with a laugh when asked about the milestone. “It feels like the birthday that doesn’t end. It’s just been great, but a very special honor. I’m very proud to be the first Oiler to do it.”

Henrique credited the Oilers organization, his teammates, and most importantly, his family for helping him reach this point. “They deserve just as much of the credit,” he said. “All the memories that have gone into this point — we’ve been able to share them together. It’s chaotic at times, but I wouldn’t change a thing.”

No Player Has Ever Reached 1000 Games as Part of the Franchise

When you consider the greats who have come and gone from Edmonton, many of whom have played 1000 games in the NHL, it’s fascinating that Henrique is the first to do so while wearing an Oilers uniform. Mark Messier, Wayne Gretzky, Scott Melanby, Luke Richardson, Paul Coffey, Roman Hamrlik, Corey Perry, Vincent Damphouse, Adam Oates, Ray Whitney, Andrew Cogliano, and Ryan Smyth are among the many names who have played 1000 or more games. None did so in Oilers’ silks.

Acquired by Edmonton ahead of a playoff push two seasons ago, Henrique quickly became a locker-room favorite for his professionalism, versatility, and veteran presence. He has played 115 of his 1000 games in Edmonton.

For Henrique, Thursday night won’t just be about personal achievement — it’s about the people who helped him get there and the city that embraced him along the way.
