3 Teams That Could Target Jordan Kyrou in a Trade

If the Blues decide to move Jordan Kyrou, several NHL teams are waiting to pounce — here are three that make the most sense.

The St. Louis Blues are officially “open for business,” and while Jordan Binnington’s name is drawing the most attention, insiders say Jordan Kyrou could be at the center much of the team’s conversations. As several insiders have reported, Blues GM Doug Armstrong is taking and making calls. He’s not necessarily looking to hold a fire sale, but he’s not afraid to make a big change that would reshape this roster. Because Kyrou was made a healthy scratch, and because there’s a past history there with being disappointed as a Blue, he could be one of the players on the way out.

Kyrou isn’t cheap, but as Elliotte Friedman pointed out, his cap hit isn’t the albatross it once was. So too, he brings a lot to the table, including speed and skill as top-six forward who can break open a game.

Here are three NHL teams that could use what he brings and might make sense if Kyrou hits the trade block.

Seattle Kraken

Elliotte Friedman mentioned on 32 Thoughts that the Seattle Kraken showed serious interest in Kyrou at last year’s draft. They have a need for scoring, and a system that could let him play free offensively. Seattle has been patient, but adding Kyrou could give them the spark they’ve lacked since their playoff debut in 2023.

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings have quietly positioned themselves as an opportunistic buyer. Kyrou’s speed fits Detroit’s high-tempo, skill-first system led by Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond. Steve Yzerman is known for striking when a player’s value dips — and with St. Louis frustrated, this could be that kind of opportunity.

This is the kind of trade that would likely wait until later in the season when Detroit knows how close or how far they are from contending.

Dallas Stars

With news that Tyler Seguin might be done for the season, if it’s determined that he won’t be back for the playoffs, the Stars suddenly have $9.8 million in cap space to use and make a trade. What better option to replace someone like Seguin than Kyrou?

The Stars are contenders and, while Kyrou has a no-trade clause, one would imagine he’d waive for Dallas and enjoy the benefit of a tax-free salary, allowing him to keep more money throughout the rest of his contract.

The only downside here is how trading for Kyrou might impact the team’s ability to re-sign Jason Robertson at the end of the season.
