Steven Stamkos Has Been Added to the Covid Protocol List

Steven Stamkos has been added to the NHL’s COVID protocol list on Friday.

Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos is among the latest names thave been added to the NHL’s COVID-19 Protocol list. He missed the Lightning’s last game with a lower body injury and was considered day to day. The superstar didn’t practice today.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Oskar Lindblom was added on Friday as well and the Edmonton Oilers are still waiting on results from the third test for Jesse Puljujarvi to come back negative before they can take him off the isolation list. New Jersey and Buffalo still lead the way with names on the list but the NHL is trying to figure out ways to curb the spread of the virus as more and more players have been in close contact.

Stamkos Won’t Likely Play Saturday

This likely means that Stamkos won’t be able to play in tomorrow’s game against the Florida Panthers — who are also missing Anthony Duclair to the protocol list. There is no update on Stamkos’ injury status, but his appearance here is certainly troubling.

The good news is that early reports were that the lower body injury he suffered Tuesday is minor enough that had it been a playoff game Thursday, he could have played.

We’ll keep things posted when it becomes more clear on the status of Stamkos moving forward.
