The Nashville Predators have announced that they have signed Jeremy Lauzon to a $2 million x four-year extension on Monday. Lauzon was an arbitration-eligible RFA and will be a UFA at the expiry of this contract.

Considered a physical depth defensive defenceman who throws a lot of hits, takes a lot of penalties, and occasionally carries the puck, this is not a bad price for Lauzon who is projected to be a significant part of the future for the team.

Lauzon was a trade deadline acquisition that the Predators gave up a second-round pick to acquire. Signing him to an extension makes any sting that might have come from giving up a decent draft pick a little less painful. The Predators will likely now turn their attention towards fellow RFAs Yakov Trenin, Cody Glass and Luke Kunin.

Lauzon said of the extension, “Nashville is the place I wanted to be, so I am thankful and fortunate to stay with this city and the Predators for the next few years.” He added, “As a defenseman who likes to play with physicality, I love the identity our team brings each game, and knew this was a group I would fit in with right away.”

Nashville’s GM David Poile said he acquired Lauzon with the idea that he would be keeping him in the fold if things worked out.
