What Colton Poolman Brings the Penguins
Colton Poolman, 29, is a blue liner who is more defensive-minded. Poolman built a reputation for himself at the University of North Dakota, where he captained the team. However, he went undrafted in the NHL. He has spent the last four seasons in the AHL, as a member of Stockton Heat/Calgary Wranglers and the Rochester Americans. His career-high in points was 14 in 64 games during the 2022-23 season with the Wranglers.
There was a time when he was considered a solid stay-at-home defenseman. Poolman is signed through the 2024-25 season, and his contract has an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level.
What Bennett MacArthur Brings the Sabres
Bennett MacArthur is a gritty forward who is known for his hard work and goal-scoring. After an excellent career at the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in the QMJHL, he went undrafted. He hasn’t spent much time in the AHL, only appeared in six games, and didn’t record a point. However, during his time in the ECHL, he scored a career-high 29 points in 43 games in the 2023-24 with the Allen Americans.
MacArthur will report to the Sabres’ AHL affiliate in Rochester.
While this trade was only a minor league deal, both teams were looking to improve both their NHL and AHL teams. This trade could better position their minor league teams to make a run at their league’s respective championships.
