In a quick Edmonton Oilers news and rumors update, there are some developments coming out of the Oilers morning skate on Monday. Leon Draisaitl was not on the ice which will be something to monitor heading into Tuesday’s action. It doesn’t sound serious, but the forward did seem exhausted on Saturday night. The good news is, others might be returning to the lineup soon.

Jason Gregor and Ryan Rishaug of TSN are both reporting that Draisaitl did not skate Monday. Gregor tweeted, “Hearing it is maintenance day for Draisaitl, but considering they had day off yesterday, it is something to monitor.” He adds, “Likely playing banged up so they are just giving him more rest.” Rishaug added that there shouldn’t be a concern for tomorrow’s game and that Draisaitl will play.
Draisaitl didn’t look like his regular self in 7-1 win over the Flames on Saturday. While he had two points in the game, he made some questionable passes and look tired, unable to complete plays. His not being on the ice today was likely just a break.
Some Regulars Back on the Ice Today
Meanwhile, reports were that Kailer Yamamoto, Ethan Bear and William Lagesson are back and Rishaug notes that head coach Dave Tippett had a long skate and chat with Bear towards the end of the practice. If Bear is able to return, the timing on this couldn’t be better as Slater Koekkoek went down with a broken collarbone in Saturday’s game and will likely miss the rest of the NHL’s regular season.
It may be another game or two before either are back, however. Tippett said, Lagesson will not be ready for tomorrow against the Canucks but Bear may be, they’ll evaluate tomorrow.
Yamamoto Back As Well
At practice, Devin Shore was centering Dominik Kahun and Yamamoto, which is an interesting trio, to say the least. Obviously, a lot of this has to do with Draisaitl’s absence but it suggests Kahun is not coming out of the lineup despite some struggles offensively and Shore could be in, meaning James Neal or Kyle Turris might be out.
