Thanks to his appearance on Taxi Muller, we already know that veteran NHLer Joe Thornton can carry a tune. Apparently, a good chunk of the Toronto Maple Leafs locker room is also a fan of singing. So much so, forward Mitch Marner is leading the charge for the players to get a karaoke machine added to the itinerary on team road trips.

Marner spoke with the media and when asked about how the team is bonding, keeping things light and trying to make everything seem as normal as possible in such an odd season, he suggested he’s pitched to the team that they should get a karaoke machine for the dressing room. It’s an idea that defenseman Justin Holl is totally on board with and both players know what they’re going to sing and believe between the veterans and the young guys, there could be variety of genres covered.
“Dancing on My Own” is Marner’s go-to song and he said he got a machine for Christmas since he can’t really go anywhere. He figures it would be a great cool addition to keep things light with this teammates and give them something to do since they can’t go out and do anything as they try to play 56 games in 116 days.
It’s All About Staying Healthy
Marner points out that while the idea of a karaoke machine is fun, the real reason to do something like this is to stay healthy and not increase the risk of anyone on the team getting sick. The best way to do so is giving the players reasons to enjoy each other’s company without temptation to go out and up the odds of catching the virus.
It will be on road trips when the team is gone for a while that things could feel long and boring. It’s in those times the group will need something to keep it light.
