Ahead of the 2020-21 regular season, two NHL organizations named new team captains today. The Detroit Red Wings named 24-year-old Dylan Larkin as captain, while the Vegas Golden Knights appointed 28-year-old Mark Stone its new leader.

Dylan Larkin
Larkin becomes the 37th captain in Red Wings history and now joins an exclusive club that includes historical franchise figures like Sid Abel, Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, Alex Delvecchio, Steve Yzerman, Nicklas Lidström as well as the most recent captain Henrik Zetterberg. Big shoes to fill!
The team has not had a captain since Zetterberg was forced to retire in 2018 due to an on-going back injury. Larkin was selected 15th overall by Detroit in 2014 and enters his sixth NHL season. In 389 games thus far, the Waterford, Michigan native has accumulated 107 goals and 159 assists (266) to start his NHL career.
Exciting times for the young man and the organization – wishing him the best in this new chapter of his career.
Mark Stone
Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights have named the organizations first ever captain in Mark Stone. The Winnipeg native enters his third season with Vegas after starting his career in Ottawa with the Senators. The right winger has transformed into one of the games elite power forwards – a great combination of size, skill, power, and consistent production.
At 6-foot-3 and 200 plus pounds he is tough to handle on the puck, and his offensive production always seems steady. In 449 career games Stone has accumulated 149 goals and 236 assists (385). The former Brandon Wheat King has a history with Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon – a considerable factor when the team acquired Stone in 2019.
Seems like a great choice for city of Las Vegas and the Golden Knights franchise!
With the two leadership announcements today, there are now three remaining NHL teams without a captain – New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, and Ottawa Senators.
