Jets Place Pierre-Luc Dubois on Injured Reserve List

The Winnipeg Jets have placed Pierre-Luc Dubois on injured reserve. He could be back Friday, but it’s another hurdle in a tough season.

Pierre-Luc Dubois’ season has been nothing short of a gong show so far. While it might not be dire news, things got even worse for the forward on Wednesday as he was placed on the injured reserve. The good news is, he could return as soon as Friday against the Vancouver Canucks.

Dubois started the 2020-21 campaign by signing a two-year extension with the Columbus Blue Jackets, but it was clear he wasn’t wanting to stay. He was then moved to the Winnipeg Jets as part of a trade that included Patrik Laine. While Laine has had his own issues in Columbus, he’s starting to figure things out. Meanwhile, Dubois has barely played for Winnipeg.

Head coach Paul Maurice told reporters over the weekend that Dubois was dealing with a “mechanism of injury.” That meant he’d be out of the lineup because something wasn’t quite right. It wasn’t clear at that time how many games Dubois would miss. On Wednesday, it was clear he’d miss at least one more.

It’s too early to suggest this is something serious or long-term, but one has to wonder what is going on. Ken Wiebe notes, “This move is retroactive and provides a bit of roster flexibility.”

Things Not Going According to Plan for Dubois

Again, this might not be anything serious, but it’s another hurdle in an already trying season for Dubois. The forward has failed to record a shot in either of his games with the Jets this season and has just one point on the season.

Needless to say, he’s not looked at all like the top-line center the Jets thought they were acquiring and when he does get on the active roster, he’ll have to go on a run to make this season really mean something. Considering the depth the Jets have at forward, it’s not like he’s going to be given the best opportunities right out of the gate either. He’ll need to earn his spot.
