Evander Kane Writes Thank You Letter to Oilers and Fans

It sounds like Evander Kane has just said his goodbyes to the Edmonton Oilers and the team’s fans in a post on social media.

While it’s not confirmed as an exit letter, nor is there an indication from the team and the player that an extension isn’t on the table, it sounds like Evander Kane has just said his goodbyes to the Edmonton Oilers and the team’s fans. Kane posted a note to the team and the fan base thanking them for their support on social media Thursday. While it could be an appreciation post and just a heartfelt thank you, the indication is that he’s probably moving on this summer.

He started by writing, “Thank you to all the fans who supported me this year. To everyone who doubted me, I thank you as well.” He added, “To my Oilers teammates, I appreciate each and every single one of you for welcoming me in and embracing me in such a genuine way. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to play with such a committed, hardworking, and loyal group of men.”

He finished by calling the Oilers organization a first-class place to play and said he appreciated the opportunity to work with a play for such a historic franchise.

Most fans who read this seemed to take it as a goodbye note. This comes just hours after a number of Oilers media members said it was unlikely the two sides worked out a deal for him to sign an extension. GM Ken Holland said that he was interested in inking Kane to a new deal but the cost would be a factor and Holland said there was no way he could keep the entire team together.

Kevin Weekes wrote that Kane is going to ask for somewhere between $7 and $8 million on an extension and that number just doesn’t seem like a realistic option for the Oilers who have a number of other things on their to-do list.
