Bruins Sign Nick Foligno and Linus Ullmark in NHL Free Agency

The Boston Bruins signed a couple big names in the free agent market, adding goaltender Linus Ullmark and forward Nick Foligno.

A couple of interesting free agent names came off the board Wednesday and went to the Boston Bruins. The team signed goaltender Linus Ullmark and forward Nick Foligno.

One of the more interesting names on the goaltending market got signed by the Boston Bruins on Wednesday. Goaltender Linus Ullmark signed a four-year contract, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. Ullmark, 27, was one of the more coveted goalie free agents when the market opened. He posted a 9-6-3 record with a 2.63 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage in 20 games with the Buffalo Sabres last season. He was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise awful season.

By the time the day was mostly done, the Bruins had done the following: Linus Ullmark: 4 yrs, $5M AAV Nick Foligno: 2 yrs, $3.8M AAV Erik Haula: 2 yrs, $2.375M AAV Tomas Nosek: 2 yrs, $1.75M AAV Mike Reilly: 3 yrs, $3M AAV Derek Forbort: 3 yrs, $3M AAV.

The Ullmark signing is interesting because of the unclear status of Tuukka Rask. Ullmark has improved in each of the past three seasons but Rask would still be considered the starter in Boston if he were to return to the team next season.

As for Nick Foligno, he told TSN that his daughter’s life was saved at Boston Children’s Hospital, and that had part to do with his decision to sign with the Bruins. He’s upset about how things went in Toronto and it would have been nice for things to have gone differently, but it’s time to move on and bring those lessons with him to Boston.
