Pierre-Luc Dubois Trade Imminent, Three Teams Listed as Frontrunners

Multiple reports suggest a Pierre-Luc Dubois trade is imminent and could happen as early as Saturday. Three teams lead as frontrunners.

As per a number of sources late Friday evening, a Pierre-Luc Dubois trade out of Columbus is imminent and could happen as early as Saturday. It appears the Blue Jackets are going to be keeping Dubois out of the lineup, likely with a trade forthcoming and there’s all sorts of speculation as to what the deal might be and which teams are still in, while others have been told they are out.

As per TSN’s Darren Dreger, “My sense from canvassing sources tonight, Columbus is closing in on a trade involving Pierre Luc Dubois.” He adds, “It’s a complicated process that could be resolved as early as tomorrow. Teams have been told they’re out. Hard to say who’s in, but it’s believed Winnipeg is among them.”

Of course, that will lead to speculation that the trade will include Patrik Laine. That said, there’s also buzz that disgruntled winger Jack Roslovic could be involved. If so, it would turn an already potentially big trade into a very big trade with multiple pieces being moved.

Dubois for Laine NHL Trade Rumors

Aaron Portzline of The Athletic was covering the story closely on Friday night and sent out numerous updates on the situation. Before potentially signing off for the night, he wrote:

“Go to bed. Told it’s unlikely a #CBJ deal w Pierre-Luc Dubois is completed tonight. Saturday could be a big day, though. As @PierreVLeBrun has reported, Anaheim, Montreal and Winnipeg believed to be the front-runners.

Portzline added, “Dubois will be a healthy scratch vs. The Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday … if he’s still on the Blue Jackets’ roster.'” The report Portzline was referring to from Pierre LeBrun was from a tweet Friday evening where the hockey insider said, “Montreal Canadiens also remain in the mix, while Winnipeg, Anaheim, and the Habs are the frontrunners.”

Of course, the trade will affect both teams negatively at first since the players moved will have to quarantine. That is, unless the deal is done with Anaheim. It’s not clear whether or not that gives them an advantage in any deal.

Where Does Roslovic Fit?

LeBrun was the insider who also threw Jack Roslovic’s name into the mix when he wrote, “Columbus would be a natural landing spot for Jack Roslovic potentially part of a larger deal here. Assuming Laine is the headliner but would make sense for the Jackets to want Roslovic as well. Let’s see where this goes.”

The talk surrounded the Jets on Friday, but the fact that Montreal is still in the mix is very interesting because it begs the question as to who might be involved. The Canadiens are a deep team that leads the North Division and while Dubois would likely make them deeper, GM Marc Bergevin would have to give up a good piece to acquire the center.
