The news dropped last week, but the Chicago Blackhawks made it official on Monday, naming Luke Richardson as the team’s next head coach. A well-respected and beloved assistant for many seasons, Richardson will get a chance to show what he can do running his own NHL bench. The organization will officially introduce him as coach in a press conference on Wednesday at 11 a.m. CT.

Richardson said of the hiring, “I am honored to be trusted with this opportunity … We will work to direct the team on a journey that we believe will achieve success. Clear communication, a plan, hard work and execution will lead us to that success.”
The Blackhawks noted that they selected Richardson because of his experience and the fact that he shares the organization’s vision for building the right culture around the team. They said he was the “perfect person to lead this next era of the Chicago Blackhawks.”
Richardson was most recently an assistant with the Montreal Canadiens. He also played in 1400+ NHL games, spent eight years as NHL assistant, and four years as an AHL head coach.
