The Winnipeg Jets have acquired defenceman Dylan DeMelo from the Ottawa Senators in a trade on Tuesday. They moved a 2020 third-round pick in exchange.

A team that was in dire need of improving their blue line, the Jets adding someone does not come as a surprise. That they may not be done yet shouldn’t shock people either.

Darren Dreger reports:

Cheveldayoff may not be done adding to his blue line, however, DeMelo definitely helps. The Jets are also in the market for a forward, although prices remain high, so no guarantee that happens.

In 49 games this season, DeMelo has 10 assists but no goals. That said, he can score as he posted four goals and 22 points in 77 games last season. DeMelo, 26, was originally drafted in the sixth round (179th overall) by the San Jose Sharks at the 2011 NHL Draft.
