San Jose Sharks Trade Brenden Dillon to Washington Capitals

San Jose Sharks have moved the player most people believed they’d move when they sent defenseman Brenden Dillion to the Washington Capitals

The San Jose Sharks have moved the player most people believed they’d move when they sent defenseman Brenden Dillon to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday for a second and third round pick.

Pierre LeBrun broke the trade after a series of other trades took place Tuesday including Dylan DeMelo to Winnipeg. The Capitals later issued their own release confirming the trade.

Dillon knew a trade was likely and was quite emotional about it when talking with media yesterday in San Jose. Having been asked if it might be his last game with the Sharks, that proved to be true.

The Sharks are clear sellers at this year’s trade deadline and Dillon was among the more notable of defensemen available. He brings 588 career games of NHL experience to the Capitals’ blue line and he ranked second among San Jose defensemen with a 51.70 shot attempt percentage this season.

San Jose has retained 50% of Dillon’s cap hit. Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports that in the event the Capitals win the Stanley Cup, the 2021 third-round pick will become Arizona’s 2020 third, which the Capitals previously acquired.
