Penguins Add Rodrigues and Sheary From Sabres

The Penguins have acquired a pair of players as Conor Sheary and Evan Rodrigues come to the Penguins. In return, the Buffalo Sabres get Dominik Kahun, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.

Proving the Pittsburgh Penguins are always going to be a team that “goes for it”, the Pens have acquired a pair of players as Conor Sheary and Evan Rodrigues come to the Penguins. In return, the Buffalo Sabres get Dominik Kahun, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.

The reports were confirmed by Sportsnet’s John Shannon.

Sheary returns to the Penguins, where he began his career and was a member of the Penguins organization for several years prior to joining the Buffalo Sabres.  Sheary has 9 goals and 19 points in 55 games so far this season.

Rodrigues asked the Sabres for a trade back on Dec. 31 due to his lack of playing time He appeared in just 38 games for the team this season but has often been a healthy scratch. Rodrigues has five goals and nine points this season.

Kahun could be the sleeper in this trade. Just 24, he’s got big upside and has nine goals and 27 points this year after arriving in a trade last summer. He should give the Sabres a helpful third-line option. Kahun will be a restricted free agent this summer.

Again, for Buffalo, there moves today were a bit confusing. They added Wayne Simmonds in what appeared to be a deal that suggested they wanted to contend for a playoff spot, but then moved out two pieces that could have potentially helped their push.
