The Edmonton Oilers heave learned that newly acquired defenseman Mike Green will be out of the lineup 3-4 weeks with a sprained MCL. The team announced the injury Friday.
Green, 34, was acquired from the Detroit Red Wings at the trade deadline in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick, and while he wasn’t likely to be a top-four defenseman for the Oilers, he was a rental that was meant to give the team some depth and a power play option.
This is just another in a long line of injuries for the team who has been hit extremely hard with issues that is depleting their lineup. Green, himself has a history of injury issues.
Hopefully he’ll be back in time to help the Oilers try and secure a play off spot. If they do, he should be available for the post-season.
