Canucks Forward Goldobin to Sign in KHL

According a couple of different reports, it appears as though Vancouver Canucks winger Nikolay Goldobin is heading overseas and to the KHL.

According a couple of different reports, it appears as though Vancouver Canucks winger Nikolay Goldobin is heading overseas and to the KHL. Sport-Express’ Igor Eronko reports that Goldobin is expected to sign a two-year deal with CSKA Moscow and TSN 1040’s Rick Dhaliwal added a that he’s received word from Goldobin himself, confirming the report.

Dhaliwal notes that the former Canucks’s forward commented directly on his exit from the Vancouver organization, sounding upset about the way things worked out. About signing in Russia, Goldobin said, “The Canucks did not want to sign me, I was disappointed how it turned out in VAN but I am happy to sign in KHL and will try NHL again in 2 years.”

After being waived by the Canucks, Goldobin spent the entire year with AHL Utica Comets and played well, recording 50 points in 51 games.

How Many Others May Bolt For the KHL?

This comes after a strange story where Artemi Panarin was quoted as saying he would skip the season and head to the KHL if the NHL asked for players to take too large a salary cut. Of course, he later tried to correct those comments, saying he was just joking when he said them.

This also comes after Anton Slepyshev turned down an offer to join the Edmonton Oilers, electing to re-sign in the KHL. Is this a trend that may continue over the summer as pauses and questions about salary cap continue to disrupt what NHL organizations may be able to do?
