Social media is being flooded with congratulations for Alex Ovechkin who reached the 700-goal mark during his NHL career on Saturday in a 3-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Surely, Ovie would have liked to get the win, but 700 isn’t a bad consolation prize.

A number of hockey personalities and media types took to social media to congratulate the star and even the Devils sent out a congrats to the player who’d scored on them! It was the ultimate show of good sportsmanship.

The Washington Nationals simply said, “Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi!
Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi! Ovi!” (yes, that many times).

Ovechkin becomes the eighth player in NHL history to score 700 goals and joins some pretty elite company including Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Jaromir Jagr, Brett Hull, Marcel Dionne, Phil Esposito and Mike Gartner. Speaking of Gartner, it’s like Ovechkin will pass him this season on the all-time goals list.
